Bernhard Langer is coming!
Schwerin/Vorbeck – There is great delight in the WINSTONgolf team: Bernhard Langer has confirmed his participation in this year’s WINSTONgolf Senior Open from 15 - 17 July 2022!
With the two-time Masters winner, all golfing fans can look forward to one of the world’s best players. Enthusiastic Tournament Director Stefanie Merchel says: “This pledge by Bernhard Langer is not a matter of course, because we know about his bulging calendar. The delight that he will take part in our anniversary event is made all the greater. As ambassador, Bernhard has been a member of our WINSTONfamily for a long time, and we are proud to be able to present this exceptional sportsman to our public, especially in the context of our double anniversary. Spectators can look forward to a unique golfing highlight in Northern Germany.”
The German golfing legend from Anhausen is also looking forward to his visit to Germany: “For me, it's also always nice to come back to Germany again and to play in front of the country’s public. It will now be my fifth time there, and of course I am especially pleased to celebrate the forthcoming anniversary together with the WINSTONgolf team. At this special Tournament, spectators will have a unique opportunity to experience not only myself but also all the other top players of the Over-50s Tour at close quarters. To win here would naturally be terrific!”
Bernhard Langer is hunting a record
Bernhard Langer will be 65 years old this August, and he won in the Seniors for the 43rd time as the oldest player in the PGA Tour Champions. Only last November he was victorious for the sixth time in a row in the annual assessment of PGA Tour Champions to win the Charles Schwab Cup. After nearly 15 years in the American Seniors Tour, “Mr. Consistency” played in all 39 tournaments of the 2020/2021 season, in which he achieved 24 Top-Ten rankings and two victories. The exceptional athlete received the Player of the Year award for the 9th time. Langer has won a total of 43 events since his first tournament among the Over-50 Professionals in August 2007. He was at the start in the European Tour more than 500 times.
A double anniversary in 2022
The WINSTONgolf Senior Open – the only tournament of the Legends Tour on German ground – is held this year for the tenth time. Thus the WINSTONopen championship course, opened in 2002, celebrates 20 years of its existence this year with a brand new bunker design. The best combination of all to present the European players of the Seniors Tour to German golfing fans.
Experiencing golfing stars at close quarters
Spectators don’t normally come so close to professional players. During the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, young and old from golfing beginners to passionate golfers can already rub shoulders with legends of the golfing scene on the driving range, and even on the course. Entry is free on all the days of the Tournament, and sufficient parking spaces for spectators are also available free of charge.
This major golfing event will be played in the Dunhill format, i.e. one professional and one amateur in each team will play rounds on Friday and Saturday of the Tournament. Three rounds will be played without a cut. Sixty professionals will compete among themselves on Sunday, when total prize money of EUR 350,000 will be at stake. The winner will receive a cheque for more than EUR 50,000.
WINSTONgolf – A golfer’s paradise in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Top golfing architect Dipl.-Ing. Holger Rengstorf designed the 18-hole championship course with a great love of detail on a total area of 110 hectares (272 acres). The characteristic features of this 6,305-metre parkland course are its gently-rolling hills of the local terminal moraine landscape. The demanding course with its well-guarded greens recently received a redesign of its bunkers. Sensitive, intelligent interventions reduced the sand hazards from 80 to 49 – which means the WINSTONopen awaits you with a highly modern, trendsetting style, and gives the right answer to golfers’ increased playing needs. It has become trickier for experienced players, but the course can be mastered with greater playing enjoyment by golfers with higher handicaps. The WINSTONopen was most recently the venue for the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in 2019.
