We present our WINSTONopen championship course hole by hole in detail – explained with ease, with lots of tips from our pros. Which will be your favorite course?

Hole 1
Par 5 / HCP 9
  • White
    502
  • Yellow
    454
  • Blue
    433
  • Red
    385
  • Orange
    358
Tip from Stephan Peters
Keep the first stroke on this par-5 slightly to the left. It is better to position the second stroke at the left side of the two-part fairway. Care is also advisable when playing out of the green bunker, because the green slopes down towards the water.
Hole 2
Par 4 / HCP 1
  • White
    359
  • Yellow
    353
  • Blue
    333
  • Red
    304
  • Orange
    268
Tip from Stephan Peters
The most difficult hole on this golf course awaits you. Your driver should stay in the bag. Lay the first ball in front of the water. Good players attack with the second stroke, but plan this stroke very carefully. The green slopes downwards and is guarded by water in front and by bunkers at the sides and rear. If the second stroke goes too far to the left, play a provisional ball.
Hole 3
Par 4 / HCP 13
  • White
    289
  • Yellow
    278
  • Blue
    269
  • Red
    246
  • Orange
    233
Tip from Stephan Peters
Starting from the tee-off, aim onto the left of the three bunkers. You don’t have much room for error – therefore prefer to play rather too short than too long. When the wind is behind them, long hitters can reach the green with the first stroke. When doing this, aim at the 100-metre post, on the left across the hard rough. Caution: Karnickelberg hill with dense hard rough, gorse, bushes and trees, lies about 11 yards behind the green.
Hole 4
Par 3 / HCP 17
  • White
    151
  • Yellow
    151
  • Blue
    103
  • Red
    103
  • Orange
    103
Tip from Stephan Peters
A nice par-3 – and up to 148 feet higher than the lowest point on the WINSTONopen course. Gentlemen play from Karnickelberg hill. Caution: the conditions are almost always windless on the hill, due to the old clump of trees. Watch the treetops. If the ball goes to the right, you have hardly any chance of finding it again.
Hole 5
Par 4 / HCP 11
  • White
    339
  • Yellow
    320
  • Blue
    299
  • Red
    287
  • Orange
    254
Tip from Stephan Peters
A straight par-4 towards an unusually raised green – you can take out the driver and drive straight ahead. But take care with the stony ditch extending along the right-hand side as far as the back of the green. The stroke to the green should lie safely on or well in front of the green, because a pot bunker lined with wooden planks lies in the middle. Golf course service: There is an intermediate hut with a WC and drinks station at the tees.
Hole 6
Par 4 / HCP 7
  • White
    381
  • Yellow
    340
  • Blue
    303
  • Red
    258
  • Orange
    258
Tip from Stephan Peters
An architectural masterpiece: overcome the stony gully with the first stroke. If there is a headwind, consider a stroke in front of the ditch. There is a deep depression in front of the green. Therefore you should choose your club carefully so as to cross over the valley. Because if the ball does not reach the green and is too short, it can roll back up to 30 yards.
Hole 7
Par 3 / HCP 15
  • White
    142
  • Yellow
    138
  • Blue
    122
  • Red
    106
  • Orange
    106
Tip from Stephan Peters
Hole 7 is in a picturesque position and offers a beautiful view over the Vorbeck Lake. The green is well guarded by two bunkers. Directly in front, a stream crosses the hole as a “penalty area”. At the tee, pay attention to the wind strength and height difference.
Hole 8
Par 4 / HCP 5
  • White
    389
  • Yellow
    365
  • Blue
    337
  • Red
    304
  • Orange
    287
Tip from Stephan Peters
Hole 8 slopes down slightly to the left. With the first stroke, aim at the third bunker – but Be Careful: don’t play too far to the right, because hole 9 already begins there. The eighth green is also the lowest point on the WINSTONopen. If your ball lies on the left in the hard rough, you should play a provisional ball afterwards.
Hole 9
Par 5 / HCP 3
  • White
    523
  • Yellow
    473
  • Blue
    447
  • Red
    422
  • Orange
    399
Tip from Stephan Peters
Aim at the left side of the fairway, because two unpleasant bunkers lurk within driving distance on the right. Keep away from the beautiful but treacherous watercourse on the right of the green: it comes into play more than expected. Pay attention to the pin position and hit the correct plateau. Note: if you take a break after nine holes, you will need a new start time from Tee 1. For this purpose, report to Reception in the WINSTONgolf clubhouse.
Hole 10
Par 4 / HCP 14
  • White
    367
  • Yellow
    324
  • Blue
    295
  • Red
    272
  • Orange
    242
Tip from Stephan Peters
Set the drive slightly to the left of the right-hand bunker. The slope goes uphill – keep to the right as you play onto the green. Beware of the deep left-hand green bunker and the hard rough. Play a provisional ball if necessary.
Hole 11
Par 3 / HCP 18
  • White
    151
  • Yellow
    124
  • Blue
    114
  • Red
    97
  • Orange
    90
Tip from Stephan Peters
A nice birdie hole – but pay attention to the pin position when choosing your club, because the green is 135 feet deep. You are also exposed to the full force of the wind here at the top.
Hole 12
Par 4 / HCP 8
  • White
    357
  • Yellow
    350
  • Blue
    325
  • Red
    302
  • Orange
    262
Tip from Stephan Peters
Hit a drive as accurately as possible to the left into the dogleg. Think very carefully about your second stroke to the green, which is surrounded by bunkers – because there’s a stony ditch behind it on the right. Enjoy the magnificent view of the Mecklenburg forests in the meantime.
Hole 13
Par 4 / HCP 2
  • White
    369
  • Yellow
    347
  • Blue
    337
  • Red
    298
  • Orange
    279
Tip from Stephan Peters
It’s best to leave the driver in the bag here. The fairway is narrow, and the boundary in the form of a fence runs alongside the entire hole. Avoid the big, deep green bunker.
Hole 14
Par 5 / HCP 12
  • White
    496
  • Yellow
    463
  • Blue
    451
  • Red
    402
  • Orange
    366
Tip from Stephan Peters
On this long, straight par-5, position your first stroke in the middle of the fairway. With the second stroke, you can skilfully exploit the slope of the course to gain length on the last part of the hole.
Hole 15
Par 3 / HCP 16
  • White
    203
  • Yellow
    185
  • Blue
    140
  • Red
    110
  • Orange
    110
Tip from Stephan Peters
Don’t underestimate the length of this narrow par-3. Water can be an obstacle on the right, and hard rough on the left. The undulating green is not very deep, and is well-guarded by three bunkers – therefore you should pay all the more attention to the wind.
Hole 16
Par 4 / HCP 10
  • White
    334
  • Yellow
    325
  • Blue
    265
  • Red
    265
  • Orange
    249
Tip from Stephan Peters
One of the most delightful tees on the WINSTONopen golf course – gentlemen tee off from the high plateau of Karnickelberg hill. Watch out for the fence directly behind the green; this marks the boundary.
Hole 17
Par 5 / HCP 4
  • White
    518
  • Yellow
    481
  • Blue
    463
  • Red
    439
  • Orange
    408
Tip from Stephan Peters
A good chance of a birdie awaits you here, and a wonderful dogleg with “stadium character”, because you play into the valley, and spectators can follow you spellbound. Steer your first ball into the dogleg. Watch out for the water. Good players attempt to take a short cut over the bunker. However, the hole and the undulating green are very well guarded.
Hole 18
Par 4 / HCP 6
  • White
    377
  • Yellow
    335
  • Blue
    304
  • Red
    272
  • Orange
    237
Tip from Stephan Peters
Enjoy the fantastic panoramic view of this challenging final hole. The fairway slopes down to the left towards the water. Watch out for the long, plank-lined bunker on the right-hand side, and the strength of the wind. You need a good drive to enable you to reach for the green with the second stroke.
